Kongunadu Arisi Paruppu Saadham | Dal Rice 



Kongunadu Arisi Paruppu Saadham!! Yes, you can guess the dish from the name itself. Arisi paruppu saadham is a famous dish around the Kongu region in Tamilnadu. Especially, Coimbatore is the major place for this arisi paruppu saadham. Where it can be made using rice and dal. You can use any dal but, Toor dal is the best combination for arisi paruppu saadham. This is a simple recipe and requires very few ingredients.

Wash the rice in running water for 2-3 times. Soak the rice and the Toor dal in water. We need to soak the rice for at least 10 minutes. Set aside. Peel the onion and chop the tomatoes fine. Set aside. Sesame oil is preferred for this recipe.

Preparation Time - 10 Minutes 
Cooking Time - 15 Minutes

Ingredients:


Rice - 1 cup
Toor Dal - 1/2 cup
Onion shallot - 10
Garlic - 6 cloves 
Red chili - 2
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Oil - 3 tbsp
Mustard seeds - 1/2 tbsp
Fennel seeds - 1/4 tbsp
Cinnamon - 1 small piece
Tomato - 1
Grated coconut - 5 tbsp
Turmeric Powder - 1/2 tbsp
Chili powder - 1 tbsp
Salt to taste

Directions:


Step 1: Wash the rice in running water for 2-3 times. Soak the rice and the Toor dal in water. Use a pressure cooker.


Step 2: Add grated coconut in the soaking rice and dal.


Step 3: Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, fennel seeds, and cinnamon. Let them crackle.


Step 4: Now add a peeled onion, curry leaves, garlic, and red chili. Saute it well for a couple of minutes.


Step 5: Then add chopped tomato and turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt. Saute it well until the tomato turns smooth.



Step 6: Now transfer the masala into the pressure cooker and mix well. Keep the cooker in the stove and cook it for 3 whistles. 



Step 7: Once the whistle came, switch off the stove and let it cool down. Open the cooker and mix well then eat.



Arisi paruppu saadham is ready to be served! It can be served with hot ghee. Just add a teaspoon of ghee and mix and enjoy your meal! Also, it will go well with pickle or papad.
