Tamarind Rice



Tamarind Rice!! Very Famous variety rice in Tamil Nadu. Here in Most temples, it will be provided on special days. Its sour taste will make us eat more and more. Pap-pad or pickle is the best combination for this rice. Let's see how to make Tamarind Rice in a simple way.

Servings - 2
Preparation Time- 10 Minutes
Cooking Time - 20 minutes

Ingredients: 



Boiled Rice - 1 bowl
Sesame oil - 4 tbsp
Tamarind - 1 Lemon sized
Chopped small onion - 10
Curry Leaves - 1 sprig
Red Chili - 2
Green Chili - 2
Mustard seeds - 1/4 tbsp
Urad dal - 1/2 tbsp
Chana dal - 1/2 tbsp
Asafoetida - 1 pinch
Sugar - 1/4 tbsp
Turmeric powder - 1/2 tbsp
Chilli powder - 1/2 tbsp
Salt - 1 tbsp

Directions:


Step 1: Soak tamarind in a bowl of hot water for 5 minutes. Then make a puree. Now heat a pan and add a pinch of asafoetida, mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal and let them splutter.


Step 2: Now add chopped onion, curry leaves, red chili, and green chili than saute well for a minute.


Step 3: Then, add turmeric powder and chili powder. 


Step 4: Now add tamarind water, salt, and sugar. Then, make it cook for 10 minutes until the oil segregates from the gravy.


Step 5: Once the oil Segregated then switch off the stove.


Step 6: The last step is adding rice. You can make tamarind rice with old rice also. If its old rice then adds it while the stove is on and make it cook for another  5 minutes and switch off. 


Else you can add newly boiled rice, make it cool and add over the stove off. Mix well and serve.
